Every year, all development loving citizens from Tappita District, along with their relatives, friends and the general philanthropic community converge on a major U.S. city to celebrate their togetherness and their oneness in purpose. This year is no exception.

This year, we will be converging on the history city of Providence, Rhode Island to celebrate our cause – the development of Tappita District. Since it’s inception just a few years ago, the Tappita District development Association has achieved great successes in its endeavor. Under the leadership of Hon. Aubrey Wehye, Executive Director, and Hon. Moses Karngbaye, Chairman of the Board, this organization undertook some of the most ambitious projects a layman citizen group has ever undertaken. In six short years,

  • We rebuilt Tappeh Memorial High School, the only public high school in Lower Nimba County, and equipped it with a functional library and computer lab. The school had been completely burned down in the last leg of the Liberian civil war

  • We upgraded the Voice of Tappita (VOT, 89.9 FM), 50watts community radio station donated by UN to help communication during the elections into a 500watts mega station that can be heard all over central Liberia. Voice of Tappita studios also got modern studio equipments from TADDA, to include computers, mixers, digital recorders, studio microphones, etc. Recently, the Netherlands government chose our station as one of the three local radio stations to collaborate with in Liberia. Three of our operators were chosen to go to the Netherlands for further training.

  • We won bids from the United Nations Quick Impact Project (UNQIP) and successfully completed the immigration building in Tappita, two elementary schools (in Grenpea and in Gblounlah), and a clinic in Yourpea. We were certified by the UNQIP and the UNDP as “partners in progress” in Liberia and our administration was asked for permission for the UNDP to use our modus operandi to teach other Liberian communities on how to do self help right.

  • We got a commendation from the International Refugee Committee as “one of the organizations showing exemplary leadership to their country of origin.” Among others.

In July of 2007, Hon. Aubrey Wehye announced his retirement and recommended one of his able lieutenants to take over. Mr. Sam G. Kpahn was appointed and confirmed as the next Executive Director of the Tappita District Development Association. He committed to continue in the illustrious path set by Hon Wehye, but also promised to do more. On July 12, 2008, Mr. Sam G. Kpahn will be installed as the new Executive Director of TADDA.

All the sons and daughters of Tappita District, their friends and relatives; all development loving persons, all progressive thinking persons, all lovers of the good are expected to converge on Providence this July to help take TADDA to the next level. We hope to see you there.
